"Deer Isle has a motion and spirit. Trees, light and water breathe together to create a tranquil and powerful beauty. It's like coming home. I will paint here forever."

Everywhere you look there is another island all beautiful and unique. I do not paint from photos or sketches. It's a memory, a feeling or a mood.

I have a thing about crows and in both my houses one watches over me. I gained permission to trespass, so I could hold the image of Crow Island in my mind, then, ran to my studio to paint it. No photos for me, just my memory!

This stand of birch trees has an austere quality, but is warmed by the rich brown tones and active India ink branches. Asian inspired (white gesso) cross-hatching adorns some trees.

The colored birch trees in this Maine winter scene portray a new direction for me. Each birch tree is a vertical abstract landscape. The Asian inspired cross-hatching represents harmony.

Drama has been created in this birch watercolor by designing colorful trees with dancing India ink branches. If you like pink you just might love this watercolor. Wood frame with mottled silver leaf finish. There is a narrow outer edge that is black and a narrow inner edge of pale pink. Totally compliments watercolor. Italian Frame.
Colors: pink, green, blue gray , black and white.

Just like the birds in the painting, I too return to Deer Isle each summer to absorb its beauty. The islands are the most enchanting with their gray granite ledges and towering spruce.

Gray granite above and below water nestles along the coastline of Deer Isle, Maine. Most of my watercolors have granite in them, a favorite theme of mine and Deer Isle. Frame: Square profile, deep sides, dark silver gray with distressed nail-head finish, wood. Beautiful.

My watercolor of granite stones has rhythm, movement and serenity all at the same time. By keeping a tonal palette, the details do dance. Asian inspired cross-hatching (white gesso) represents harmony.

Isle au Haut is part of Acadia National Park and has a beauty beyond words. I lived alone there (except for my dog). My paintings took on a charged energy as seen here in Night Tide. Painted with Asian symbols.

Sunset beach has the best stones with soft lovely colors. This watercolor has a circular composition which drove me mad, but I moved paint around and found my way. (Lucky stones have white circular bands.)
Colors: blue-gray but a great blue.

Frame size: 20 1/2" x 21 1/4"
Stones are my absolutely favorite subject to collect and paint. It took a while to master their essence, but I did; therefore "I have heard the dark hearts of the stones that beat once in a lifetime." High end framing totally compliments art. Wood with satin deep gray finish. Italian. Perfect frame for painting. Convex profile.
Colors: browns, tan, gold, pale gray, tiny bit of maroon on lowest stone that makes Stonington Stones sing.
